THE contract for the Reid Highway interchanges project has been awarded and once completed will be a game-changer for safety and traffic flow around Caversham.

The project is jointly funded by the commonwealth ($125 million) and state ($125m) governments, and will help support the growing population in Midland as a vital east-west corridor transport link.

Pedestrian and cyclist access through Caversham will be enhanced through the creation of a continuous shared path via a new principal shared path (PSP) bridge and a dedicated underpass for non-motorised users at the Daviot Road interchange.

Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2025, with detailed planning and community consultation to commence soon.

Midland MLA Steve Catania said the government was an ardent supporter of infrastructure investment, and the upgrades to Reid Highway around Caversham reinforce this record even further.

“The delivery of these interchanges will not only significantly improve safety and efficiency for commuters, but will also provide better access for non-motorised users in and around Caversham.

“I look forward to realising this project’s benefits for our community in the near future.”
