MIDLAND MLA Steve Catania has announced a $10,000 funding package to the Swan View Toy Library (SVTL) as part of commitments he made during his election campaign.

The funding will allow the SVTL to implement new signage, upgrade its ICT equipment, and expand and modernise its collection of toys available to its members.

The SVTL currently has more than 1300 toys in its collection available for use by the local community.

Operating on a membership basis the SVTL allows families the opportunity to borrow up to nine toys at a time on a 21-day rotation.

Mr Catania said he was filled with immense pride to be able officially announce the delivery of his first election commitment to the Swan View Toy Library.

“Toy libraries provide an important function for the communities they serve in respect to both affordability and sustainability,” he said.

“I look forward to visiting the rest of my commitment recipients throughout this year and realising the benefits that they will create for our area.”

Swan View Toy Library chairperson Trudi Guagliardo said the toy library had plans to use the money to renovate, update toys, and acquire educational devices that help develop fine motor and sensory skills.

“I would strongly encourage any interested families with young children to pay us a visit on a Tuesday or Saturday morning at Brown Park and see what we are all about. I would also ask members of the Swan View Toy Library to consider completing a survey to help inform our toy purchasing.”
