SLW TRANSPORT directors Shane and Leanne Willcox will be the first presenters of Swan Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 Hour of Power, planning to share stories about their life and business.
Mrs Willcox said the talk would be an opportunity to explore the journey of a couple in business together and share insight into more than 40 years together navigating life and business.
“We’re coming up 44 years this year doing business and life together,” she said.
“We’ll be sharing a bit about where we’ve come from, what brought us to Australia, a little bit about our upbringing, how we got into business and how we’ve been able to navigate being young parents.
“We were very young parents, being 16 and 17 and then taking a really different trajectory in life.
“Now, having been coached, mentored and having spent time around some entrepreneurs it’s about being able to serve people and add value into their lives.”
Mrs Willcox said the Hour of Power would be a great chance to network and hoped people would leave their presentation with courage to enthusiastically pursue their ideas and goals with new connections to make them a reality.
She said she met Swan Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer Tom Smilovitis six years ago and the opportunities that came to her were born from that moment of courage.
“I remember when I first heard about the Swan Chamber of Commerce and I had pulled up in the carpark, and just sat there,” she said.
“I said to myself, ‘if I left now, no-one would know,’ but I was able to tell myself to get out and get in there.
“I signed on that day and I suppose for both (me and Shane) if we’re able to encourage people to find 10 seconds of courage to take whatever ideas and goals they have and take that leap of faith, we’ll have succeeded.
“But the key thing we’re big on is finding the right people that will enable you to achieve your goals and dreams.”
Mr and Mrs Willcox won the Swan Chamber of Commerce’s business people of the year award in 2023 as reported in SLW Transport awarded business people of the year.
The pair have run their High Wycombe-based transport company SLW Transport since 2008 and were able to carve out their own niche in a competitive industry with established competition.
Over the span of their business life, they’ve been able to build a fleet of nine prime movers and a range of trailer equipment to suit jobs hauling a variety of freight.
Their Hour of Power presentation exploring aspects of their business and personal life as well as what it is to be a husband-and-wife duo in business together will be held at the Crooked Spire, Midland at 10.30am on February 12.
