A SERIES of botanical paintings by Swan View artist Stacy Gardoll will feature in an exhibition entitled The Flora of Western Australia – an Artistic Impression at the Mundaring Arts Centre gallery two from Saturday, June 21 to Sunday, August 10.

The art exhibition is a joyous exploration of WA’s native flora species, with an emphasis on flowering eucalypts, grevilleas and hakeas and Ms Gardoll’s work celebrates the beauty and complexity of nature, bringing a unique blend of theatricality and painterly precision to her botanical paintings.

Her pieces often reflect a deep appreciation for the natural world, inspired by the textures, colours and patterns found in nature, while showcasing a refined artistic voice that continues to evolve and captivate.

“Through my work, I strive to create a connection between the viewer and the subject, inviting the viewer to explore the intricate details of nature’s elements,” Ms Gardoll said.

“I hope that in the contemplation of my paintings, you will not only witness the beauty of these plants but you will also be moved to appreciate the fragile ecosystems they inhabit.

“Botanical painting, for me, is a deeply personal journey intertwined with a broader call to action. It is a plea for conservation, a celebration of biodiversity, and a reminder of the profound interconnectedness of all living things.

“My paintings are not merely pictures of flowers, they also give the viewer the chance to pause, and to observe the intricacies of nature, and to become lost in the details.

“Through viewing the natural wonders of nature, we are given the opportunity to be still and to feel more connected to nature and its rhythms and cycles. It is only by knowing the world around us that we can truly know ourselves,” she said.

Ms Gardoll paints from her home studio in Swan View and is a long-time member of the Mundaring Hills Open Studios group.

She trained in three dimensional design, then in set and costume design at Curtin University, and WAAPA respectively, and spent many years designing and painting large-scale scenery and murals.

This love of painting took on a new passion, with a gradual change to oil painting on a smaller scale and settled on a love for botanical art which had been a hobby for many years.

Ms Gardoll has had numerous group shows, including last year’s Perfectly Still exhibition with eight other prominent still-life and botanical artists in Fremantle.

She also had two joint exhibitions at the Zig Zag Gallery in Kalamunda, with her friend and renowned bird artist Sally Edmonds.
