A SIGNIFICANT upgrade of a valuable weather decision-making tool will boost Western Australia’s primary industries businesses, as well as emergency services.

The state government’s Weather Stations app has been revitalised, with improved functionality, data analysis, device sharing, and alerts now available across all mobile device platforms.

Content from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s (DPIRD) popular Weather Stations webpage is now captured on the app, plus a host of additional features.

The refresh includes a map of 191 weather stations across Western Australia with real-time weather data, including temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed and direction, soil temperature, dew point, and more.

Radar imagery can now be overlaid on the interactive map, which will be particularly useful for landholders to inform sowing, spraying and harvest decisions, as well as livestock management.

The dashboard from the online version is now included on the app, which can be customised and synchronised across devices.

Historical information can be downloaded via the dashboard, according to minute, hourly, daily, monthly, and yearly requirements - either as a table or a chart.

The Weather Stations app is also a valuable tool for emergency services to use in the event of a fire, storm, or cyclone, as well as consultants, scientists, and the community.

The easy-to-use app incorporates ‘how to’ videos and tips to help users get the most out of the free digital resource.

Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis said the upgraded Weather Stations app will provide fast, reliable, location-specific weather intelligence from across Western Australia.

“The valuable information delivered by the app will help users to act sooner, plan with more confidence, and rely on a single trusted source for weather insights - all from the palm of their hands,” she said.

“I encourage everyone to check out the new version of the app and see how it can benefit you and your business.

“This initiative demonstrates how the Cook Labor government is making diverse investments to back our primary industries and create practical tools that support business productivity and community resilience across the state.”

The DPIRD Weather Stations app can be downloaded on Apple and Android devices.
