BASSENDEAN artists are throwing open their studio doors for another year.
Following the success of their inaugural open studios weekend, the team are back this year with a vibrant trail showcasing the talent of the town of Bassendean’s artists.
On November 23 and 24, artists will welcome visitors into their creative spaces, offering them a behind-the-scenes look at their creative process, their inspirations, and the unique spaces where their art comes to life.
This year’s participating artists include Sarah Eve, Romona Sandon, Netta Thompson, Emma Coleman, Justine Renzullo, Bethamy Linton, Joyce Tasma, Ashleigh Whyte, Debbie Mellows, Jane Dundas and Tabitha Durrani.
The event is free and open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, offering the perfect opportunity to get the whole family out and about for an affordable day exploring and supporting the local art scene.
The art trail includes artists who create paintings, jewellery, textiles pieces, portraits, and drawings, so there truly is something to wow everyone from the art expert to the newest art lover.
Committee member and participating artist Sarah Eve said the weekend was designed to be a fun, relaxed and free event for everyone to enjoy, to bring art to the wider community and foster new connections between local artists and the community.
“Attending an open studio is a unique experience because it goes beyond simply viewing artwork. It allows visitors to step into the personal creative spaces of artists, offering an intimate glimpse into their process. You get to see not only the finished pieces but also the environment where the magic happens – complete with tools, materials, and inspirations behind the work,” she said.
“Meeting the artists in person, hearing their stories, and understanding the creative journey behind each piece adds a personal connection that galleries often lack. Open studios are also more relaxed and welcoming, making art accessible to everyone.”
Ms Eve encouraged people to ask questions and talk to the artists they visit about their work and inspirations.
However, she asked that visitors respect the artist and space they are visiting and to ask the artists’ permission before taking any photos.
“Visitors will love the authentic and personal connection they can make with local artists during the open studios. The event offers a chance to engage directly with artists, explore diverse art forms, and experience the creative process firsthand,” she said.
“Families will enjoy the fun and educational aspects of the event, and for art lovers, it’s an opportunity to discover new talent, support local creators, and even bring home a unique piece.
“Most importantly, it’s a free, family friendly, accessible to all-ages event that fosters community connection and makes art accessible.”
