Residents are needed to help maintain the nearly 1000km trail that goes from Kalamunda to Albany.

THE Bibbulmun Track Foundation is calling on Perth Hills residents to help maintain one of the state’s best-known walking trails through its 2026 Adventure Raffle.

With the northern terminus located in Kalamunda, funds raised will help maintain the track’s shelters, infrastructure and walking surface so the nearly 1000km trail remains safe and accessible for walkers travelling from Kalamunda to Albany.

The track is a popular destination for day walkers in the Perth Hills and the starting point for thousands of people who tackle sections of the iconic trail each year, contributing to tourism and supporting businesses in communities along its route.

Bibbulmun Track Foundation chief executive officer Su-Mita Hill said the annual raffle helped sustain both the track and the regional communities connected by it.

“The Bibbulmun Track is not only a treasured natural asset, it is also an important part of many regional communities,” she said.

“Funds from this raffle go directly towards maintaining the Track, including shelters and track infrastructure, which helps ensure safe and accessible experiences for walkers visiting these regions.”

According to the foundation, maintaining the track also supports sustainable visitation to regional towns, preserves natural environments and encourages outdoor recreation across the southwest.

Participants in the raffle will go into the draw to win prizes including a $6000 Intrepid Travel adventure, outdoor equipment and hiking gear donated by supporting businesses.

Funds raised through the raffle will help support the more than 450 volunteers who contribute thousands of hours each year to maintaining and caring for the Bibbulmun Track.

The Bibbulmun Track Foundation recruits, trains and coordinates this volunteer network, providing the skills, equipment and support needed to undertake essential conservation and maintenance work along the 1000km track.

A recent example was a volunteer field day in the Perth Hills, where volunteers spent the day carrying out maintenance at a track shelter.

The team cleared overgrown vegetation, cleaned gutters and water systems, refreshed signage, maintained timber structures and undertook track works training including waterbar and step installation.

These field days, held regularly throughout the year, help ensure the Bibbulmun Track remains safe, sustainable and accessible for the thousands of walkers who enjoy it each year.
