YOUNG basketball players from Binar Futures in Midland got to see their heroes at the NBL’s 2024 Indigenous round game after tickets were donated by P&N Bank.
Indigenous Perth Wildcats player Keanu Pinder presented the budding young basketball players from Binar with their tickets at a special event recently held.
P&N will also provide the unique opportunity for ten young female representatives from Binar to showcase their skills in a basketball game on the RAC Arena court during the half time break of the Wildcats match.
Binar began in 2011 as a local basketball team of six Indigenous youth and has since grown to have more than 1800 young people (78 per cent Aboriginal) involved in the Perth metro area and surrounds.
Binar’s programs include sports, culture, youth leadership and youth development. Binar chair, four-time Olympian and former Perth Wildcats captain Andrew Vlahov, said the organisation was very appreciative of the opportunity to get their young people involved in the NBL Indigenous round game.
“Binar exists to provide positive pathways and opportunities for our young players,” Mr Vlahov said.
“Thanks to the generous donation of P&N and the help of the Perth Wildcats - some of our kids will be able to experience basketball at the highest level. It may even illuminate a special pathway for some.”
P&N Bank’s Angela Newland said it provided an opportunity for 100 young people from two First Nations community organisations to watch their heroes live in action.
