STUDENTS from Brabham Primary School’s green team were out in force last week for the second annual Brabham Planting Day as part of National Tree Day.

The event encourages students to live more sustainably by nurturing their local environment and through a partnership with Peet worked to cultivate and plant more than 250 seedlings in the Brabham estate.

Community development consultancy, Creating Communities Australia, and revegetation specialists, Tranen, helped run the program.

Having participated in last year's inaugural Brabham Planting Day, Jessica Fisher, a teacher at Brabham Primary School, said she was excited to see the event come to life once again.

“Last week, our school's ‘green team’, in collaboration with Peet, were fortunate enough to take part in a meaningful excursion to plant new trees in a local bushland area,” Ms Fisher said.

“The students embraced the hands-on experience, gaining valuable insights into the local environment and the critical role trees play in our ecosystem, all while enjoying the rewarding experience of contributing to the area’s revegetation efforts.

“The smiles on their faces and the mud on their shoes were a testament to this.

“Brabham Primary School deeply values this initiative, as it aligns with our commitment to environmental stewardship and providing students with practical, impactful learning opportunities.

“We look forward to watching these trees flourish over the years to come.”

Peet chief executive officer Brendan Gore said that encouraging environmental stewardship at an early age helped younger residents understand the role they play in building a greener community.

“Brabham Estate is one of a number of Peet communities around the country that support National Tree Day as a national community initiative to educate students about sustainability and the role we can all play in having a positive impact on our local environment,” he said.

“It reflects our commitment to fostering strong community relationships, supports our ongoing sustainability education programs, and aligns with our broader effort to exceed tree planting requirements set by the City of Swan.”

Building off a decade long tree planting initiative in Peet’s Lakelands estate, Brabham Planting Day hopes to engage an entire generation of students, encouraging them to care for both the community and local environment for years to come.
