SWAN VIEW cricketers will have to wait another month until the new Brown Park practice wickets are ready for use, says the Shire of Mundaring.

The construction of the three bay practice cricket wicket facility began in early December and was due to be completed by mid-February.

The shire’s chief executive officer Jason Whiteaker said the wickets’ concrete pad will be poured next week but will need time to cure before the turf and wire fencing can be installed.

“Subject to favourable weather conditions, and no vehicle and harvest movement bans being declared, it is anticipated the project will be completed mid-March,” he said.

The new practice nets were estimated at $100,000, as part of the shire’s 2023-2024 capital works program, which has a budget of $15.8 million.

Located on the northwest corner of the lower oval alongside Amherst Road, the new facility will comprise of synthetic grass turf, rubber protective matting, and an enclosed wire mesh roof.
