THE Canola Classic returns to York this Sunday rolling out of the York Recreation Centre on Sunday morning, August 24 at 8am.

Shire of York President Kevin Trent will have his trusty treadly on the line on Sunday morning as the 500 riders depart the York township.

“It’s one of the shire’s biggest events that brings real energy to the town with plenty of social media buzz with all the vibrant photos of the fields, town and more,” Mr Trent said.

“It brings in riders, families and visitors from across the state and gives a real boost to local accommodation, cafes, shops, and attractions.”

With two ride options – 57km and 98km – riders will hit golden canola fields, quiet country roads, and sweeping valley views in one of WA’s best mass rides in some of its most picturesque settings.

“This isn’t a closed circuit or a city loop, it’s real riding – open roads, rolling hills, and stunning canola fields. It’s the kind of ride that reminds you why you fell in love with bike riding. Some might want to ride hard, but I’d be stopping for a photo,” WestCycle chief executive officer Wayne Bradshaw said.

“The Canola Classic offers a rare chance to ride on peaceful roads surrounded by vibrant landscapes, and we’re thrilled to see it become a signature event for the region with all the economic and social benefits it brings.”

He said the Canola Classic was built for riders who want more than medals.

“It’s for those chasing the burn, the breeze, the views, the bonhomie and the bragging rights. But it’s not just for the lycra crowd – families and mates are encouraged to make a weekend of it, with York offering up local eateries and drinkeries, warm beds, and a proper country welcome.”
