THE Kalamunda Hotel is gearing up to host Mundaring-based comedian Emma Krause for two shows in January as part of Fringe Festival.
With the first show kicking off at 6pm January 27, Ms Krause’s hour-long show 40+Fabulous is about her career switch from teaching to comedy and the trials and tribulations that entailed – as well as the successes.
“My fears were huge. I had to talk at a school assembly once. I was sweaty and dizzy beforehand. My hands were shaking so badly, I couldn’t even hold the microphone still,” she said.
But since making the switch, Ms Krause said she has now found comedic success at 40 years old.
She said she was a 2019 finalist on Australia’s Got Talent, has appeared in Oz Lotto commercials and has also toured the country as part of The Motherhood comedy trio.
“I didn’t realise how comedy would transform so many areas of my life,” she said.
“In the beginning, I just knew I wanted to try it, and it scared me.
“Seven years on, I have this confidence, resilience and strength I’ve gained because of it.”
Ms Krause said the most fulfilling aspect of her career change has been performing for female audiences.
“There’s just something so special about a night out with the girls,” she said.
“We all come to understand and appreciate each other a lot better.”
She said due to demand she has added another show at Kalamunda Hotel on February 16, starting at 8.15pm, while tickets are almost sold out for the first January show.
For those unable to make the Kalamunda dates, Ms Krause will also play at the Balmoral Hotel in East Victoria Park, the Sail and Anchor in Fremantle and two venues in the Perth CBD: Ivy and Jack, and the Laugh Resort Comedy Club.
