THE Shire of Mundaring has released plans for a proposed new overnight RV rest stop and wastewater dump point in Chidlow.

The facility will be located behind the Chidlow Hall on Old Northam Road, Chidlow and fully owned and managed by the shire.

Construction is expected to commence in late 2026 with $100,000 in funding provided by the state government.

Shire president Paige McNeil said the RV overnight stop formed part of the shire’s broader commitment to supporting a vibrant and sustainable visitor economy – creating a new tourism asset designed to encourage travellers to stop, stay and explore the region.

The project was identified through the shire’s strategic planning as an opportunity to grow visitation and increase economic activity in local communities,” Ms McNeil said.

“The concept of an RV rest stop was identified in the shire’s economic development strategy and subsequently included in the council plan, which identified Chidlow as a suitable location for the facility.

“Chidlow’s new RV stop, right in the heart of the village and offering access to Lake Leschenaultia, by bike, foot or a short drive, marks an exciting next step in enhancing a favourite tourism destination,” she said.

“This project has been planned for a long time, and we’re thrilled to see it come to life.”

She said the aim was to encourage more visitors to stop within the shire, spend time in local communities and support local businesses and services.

“The proposed RV overnight stop facility will provide a short-stay option and wastewater dump point for self-contained recreational vehicles travelling through the area.”

Community consultation through an Engage Mundaring survey attracted 110 individual responses with 74 per cent supporting the development of RV rest stop facilities, 7 per cent neutral, and 19 per cent opposed.

Following this feedback an alternative location at the former hockey oval behind Chidlow Hall was identified and new concept plans were developed.

“The revised location received strong support from the Chidlow Progress Association and aligns with community feedback received during the project’s development,” Ms McNeil said.

“Construction will commence following the current procurement process for a contractor to undertake the works.”
