MOUNT Helena artist and muralist Meraki Boho (aka Tayla Beynon) is collaborating with school children to create three colourful murals at Mundaring’s Sacred Heart Primary School.
School principal Mark Tenney said Ms Boho, who is an official artist in residence, was doing an incredible job of painting three large concrete water tanks as part of the history of the school.
“All of our students from pre-kindy to year 6 have also contributed to the ideas and themes and even helped paint some of the sections themselves,” Mr Tenney said.
“Ms Boho has been an important part of the school community over the past few weeks by involving the children in the project and helping to instil a sense of belonging.”
He said some symbols of the school factions had been embedded in the murals between the flora and fauna to add to the interest.
Ms Boho said she had always been interested in mural painting and it was great to get the kids involved with their paintbrushes.
“Murals have now become the main focus of my work with the only drawback at this time of year being the weather which can obviously slow things down a bit,” she said.
“Because of this I expect it will take a few months to finish the murals.”
