BIRLI Gallery will host Colours of the Country: Landscapes of Australia, a new solo exhibition by acclaimed landscape artist Mo Anderson, opening on Saturday, September 5 and continuing through to September 26.

This captivating collection celebrates the extraordinary diversity of the Australian landscape, inviting viewers to experience the immense beauty, colour and atmosphere that make this country unlike anywhere else in the world.

Through expressive brushwork and a refined understanding of light, Mo’s paintings capture the vastness of Australia’s natural environment while conveying the emotional connection that landscapes can inspire.

Originally from Scotland, Mo Anderson’s artistic journey has been shaped by landscapes across continents.

Classically trained while living in Portugal, she has exhibited both internationally and nationally, including exhibitions with Zig Zag Gallery and Ellenbrook Arts.

She is also a respected member of the renowned Baskerville Art Group, continuing to build a reputation for paintings that evoke both memory and place.

For Mo, this exhibition represents a lifetime of artistic exploration.

“This collection is a journey from my earliest memories of making art through to where I am today. One of my first memories is sitting on a rock in Scotland, sketching the mountains in the distance,” she said.

“Years later I found myself climbing those same mountains, experiencing the landscape from an entirely different perspective.”

She said when she arrived in Australia, she was completely overwhelmed by the colours, textures and scale of the country.

“Every state feels different. The landscape changes constantly, yet every place has its own extraordinary beauty. Through this collection I wanted to capture that feeling of space, vastness, colour and wonder, and share it with others.”

Curated by Birli Gallery, Colours of the Country brings together works inspired by some of Australia’s most remarkable environments, celebrating both the diversity of the landscape and the enduring emotional connection people have with Country.

Gallery Curator Brooke Anne believes the exhibition reflects both technical excellence and genuine emotional authenticity.

“Mo’s work reminds us to slow down and truly observe the landscape around us. There is an honesty within her paintings that captures not only what Australia looks like, but how it feels. This exhibition is both a celebration of place and an invitation for viewers to reconnect with the remarkable beauty that surrounds us,” she said.

The exhibition officially opens at Birli Gallery, unit 8/52 Helena Street, Midland on Saturday, September 5 at 2.30pm, with guests invited to meet the artist and enjoy an afternoon celebrating art, conversation and community.

All works will be available for acquisition throughout the exhibition.
