IN celebration of the World Flying Disc Federation World Team Disc Golf Championships, Mundaring Arts Centre has teamed up with the Mundaring Sporting Club to deliver a collective exhibition, On Par.
This landmark event is set to bring an international audience to the Perth Hills with more than 20 teams from around the world hitting the course for the championships in Mundaring from November 6-9.
On Par explores the intersection between sport and art in a showcase of spectacular disc art by established disc artists ‘on par’ with invited Shire of Mundaring artists.
“We believe this partnership typifies the community landscape of our shire; art, sport, and team spirit, all set to the backdrop of our unique natural environment,” a spokesperson said.
Held in Mundaring Art Centre’s (MAC) Gallery 2, this collective installation presents a showcase of diverse arts practice from within the Perth Hills and beyond.
Featuring signature works by established Golf Disc artists, this exhibition spotlights a bourgeoning artform, colliding sport and art.
The disc art community has been steadily growing within the world of disc golf for some time now. Beginning as a way for players to set themselves apart on the course with personalised flare, it has evolved into a celebrated arts practice with a dedicated following.
Employing various dyeing techniques, that don’t alter aerodynamics or effect on play, artists create striking, bold and eye-catching patterns and designs.
Hailing from the Shire of Mundaring and nearby communities, more than 15 invited artists create artistic responses from a single disc golf.
Featuring a mixed lineup, from painting and ceramics to woodwork and sculptures, these diverse outcomes exemplify the artistic range of the local community.
Expect bold, dynamic discs that leap off the wall, considered contemplative works that utilise local materials, and imaginative interpretations that weave narrative and whimsy into the space.
On Par will run at the Mundaring Arts Centre until December 22.
