Police charge 12-year-old with failing to stop

FORRESTFIELD Police have charged a 12-year-old male with several offences, after he allegedly failed to comply with a police direction to stop on two occasions.
It will be alleged about 10.20pm on Wednesday, September 17, the male stole a GWM Tank 300 motor vehicle from a property on Wittenoom Road in High Wycombe.
About 11.40pm, that same evening, police activated emergency lights and sirens, in an attempt to stop the vehicle on Nardine Close, but it will be alleged the driver failed to stop and accel-erated away from police.
Officers terminated the attempt to intercept the vehicle, due to public safety concerns and the male’s alleged erratic manner of driving.
About 12.20am on Thursday, September 18, police again attempted to stop the vehicle by activating emergency lights and sirens, but it will be alleged the driver failed to stop a second time.
Due to concerns for public safety and the male’s alleged erratic driving, officers again discon-tinued the attempt to intercept the vehicle.
The allegedly stolen vehicle was then tracked by the Police Airwing, and officers successfully deployed a tyre deflation device, immobilising the vehicle on Kalamunda Road.
The vehicle came to a stop and the driver and passenger fled on foot.
One male was taken into custody. The second unknown person remains outstanding.
The 12-year-old male was charged with two counts each of driver of a vehicle failed to comply with a direction to stop (circumstance of aggravation) and reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, and one charge each of stealing a motor vehicle and reckless driving and no authority to drive (never held).
He appeared before the Perth Children’s Court on Thursday, September 18.
Inquiries remain ongoing.
Anyone with any information or footage in relation to this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
