GREENMOUNT resident Cara Baldwin will be DJing at the 2025 HyperFest event to be held in Midland on March 29.

After exploring career options and learning there were limited opportunities for open employment, Cara changed tack and took up DJ lessons, as reported in DJ Incredable all abilities Hollywood event (Echo Newspaper, June 30, 2023).

Ms Baldwin said she loved music for its ability to make others happy and help give them a reason to get together.

“I love making people happy and I get a big crowd at HyperFest,” she said.

“I am making a playlist of songs that I know the crowd will love – hits and classics from now back through to the 80s.”

Ms Baldwin said the crowd should expect to hear songs from Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae and back through the decades to hits by Fat Boy Slim and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Ms Baldwin’s mother Delia Richardson said her daughter loves an audience and appreciates music’s ability to connect people.

“Music connects people together and it has helped Cara bridge the communication gap that she sometimes encounters with other people,” she said.

“It’s a topic that provides an easy conversation starter.

“Working professionally as a DJ has given Cara so much – a sense of purpose and an identity.

“DJing has also provided Cara with a sense of self-worth.”

Ms Richardson said all too often, people living with disability are ignored or overlooked and then they can lack confidence.

“By acquiring a sense of self-worth through performing as DJ Incredable, Cara has the confidence to speak up and to chase her dreams and goals,” she said.

Ms Richardson said though the economic downturn meant there were less opportunities available to DJ, the Midland community was very supportive of Ms Baldwin’s appearances at HyperFest.

“She was so popular in her first year that she was the only person to be offered two sets last year and she is playing two sets again this year,” she said.

Ultimately, Ms Baldwin would like to support big-name artists at venues such as Perth Arena though Ms Richardson said she would also love to play at some of the world’s biggest festivals such as Glastonbury.
