SPECIALIST officers from the arson squad are seeking the public’s assistance for information as they investigate a fire at a supermarket in High Wycombe on Saturday, September 28 (AFL grand final day).
About 4pm, a person set alight toilet paper on a shelf within the supermarket located in the shopping village on Kalamunda Road.
The fire spread to several shelves, emitting thick smoke, which activated the fire sprinkler system.
Staff and customers were safely evacuated from the store, and staff members were able to use fire extinguishers to put out the fire but not before the nearest fire sprinkler system activated, flooding the store.
The fire, smoke damaged stock, including all perishables within the store, and water damage from the sprinklers, has left the store with an estimated $100,000 damage bill.
Arson squad officers would like to speak to any customers who were in the supermarket between 4pm and 4.15pm on Saturday, September 28.

Rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
OFFICERS from the major crash investigation section are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Forrestfield on Sunday, October 6.
About 12.25am, a white Mitsubishi Triton was driving in a south westerly direction on Roe Highway, Forrestfield when it left the road and rolled.
The 40-year-old male driver of the vehicle died from his injuries at the scene.

MIDLAND Police are seeking information regarding an assault incident in Middle Swan on Thursday, October 3.
About 2pm, an assault incident occurred involving two people who were inside a black Mazda vehicle that had stopped alongside Toodyay Road, near the intersection of Patterson Drive.
It is believed a number of people were in the vicinity of the vehicle, and were recording the incident on their mobile phones.
Police would like to hear from anyone who was present in the area at the time of the incident, particularly anyone who has vision of the incident.
