
KIARA Police have charged a man with several offences following an incident in Bassendean on Friday, August 1.
Around 2.35pm, police received reports of a disturbance inside a liquor store on Railway Parade.
It will be alleged the man was denied service and became aggressive towards staff, throwing items around the store and at two staff members who sustained minor injuries as a result.
It will be further alleged the man armed himself with a glass wine bottle and made a number of threats before throwing it into display shelving causing damage.
An emergency duress alarm was activated inside the store; a police unit arrived on scene minutes later, locating the man nearby.
It will be further alleged whilst attempting to arrest the man, a male senior constable was struck in the face multiple times.
A taser was deployed and the man was taken into custody.
The officer was conveyed to St John of God Hospital in Midland for treatment of facial injuries, including a suspected broken nose and concussion.
A 28-year-old male from Bassendean has been charged with one count of assaulting a public officer, two counts of assault retail worker, one count each of criminal damage, being armed in a way that may cause fear, failing to leave a licensed premises when required to do so.
The man has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, August 29.
DETECTIVES from the serious and organised crime division in conjunction with Midland Detectives, are investigating a vehicle fire that occurred in Ballajura in the early hours of Tuesday, July 29.
About 3.30am, Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and police were advised of a vehicle fire.
The vehicle – a Toyota Tarago van - was parked outside a store located at a shopping centre on Illawarra Cresent in Ballajura.
Unknown offenders smashed the driver’s side window of the vehicle before setting it alight resulting in the vehicle being totally gutted.
DFES personnel were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to nearby businesses.
As part of their ongoing investigation, detectives will review a fire that occurred at the same shopping centre earlier this year on January 28.
Detectives urge anyone who saw any suspicious activity or people in the area around the time of the fire, or who has any information relating to this incident, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online via their website.
Rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
