
DETECTIVES from the child abuse squad have commenced a comprehensive investigation into allegations of sexual abuse by a male paediatrician who worked at St John of God Midland Hospital as a consultant paediatrician.
Wembley man Chia Liang Saw, 41, has been charged with persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16 and possessing child exploitation material.
He was charged on Friday, May 29 after he allegedly sexually assaulted a patient at his place of work.
The accused specialises in behavioural issues affecting children and operates from locations in Midland and Nedlands.
Detectives have seized a number of electronic devices and data belonging to the accused.
The devices and data are currently undergoing forensic analysis and will be further investigated by police.
The paediatrician appeared in court on May 30 and was remanded in custody, before appearing at the Perth Magistrates Court on June 8 via videolink from Hakea Prison and is scheduled to face court again on June 19.
He has also been accused of filming young patients on hidden cameras during consultations, with up to nine victims.
This week the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has suspended the accused man’s medical registration prior to any court outcome or guilty verdict.
Detectives urge anyone affected, or anyone with information relevant to this investigation, to come forward.

ELLENBROOK Police have charged a man following a series of incidents in Ellenbrook on Thursday, June 4.
About 9.10pm, it is alleged the man drove a white Toyota Hilux on Gladman Pass in a dangerous manner, causing the rear tyres to lose traction.
It will be further alleged the man continued through several streets, including Barnfield Drive and Granesse Drive, where he mounted kerbs and drove across the front yards of several homes, causing damage to landscaping and a letterbox.
Police allege the Hilux sustained significant damage during the incident, however, the man continued driving in a dangerous manner through surrounding streets, including a car park on The Promenade, where the ute was driven on its rims, causing excessive noise and sparks.
It will be further alleged the man drove onto the incorrect side of The Promenade into oncoming traffic before stopping near the intersection of The Promenade and The Broadway, where he abandoned the vehicle and walked towards Ellenbrook Shopping Centre.
A 38-year-old man from Ellenbrook was arrested by police nearby a short time later and charged with one count of reckless driving.
The vehicle was impounded by police for 28 days.
About 2.40am, it will be further alleged after being released to summons, the man returned to the Ellenbrook Police Station armed with a hammer and made threats towards several people in the vicinity.
He was arrested and charged with one count of being armed in a way that may cause fear.
His bail was refused and he appeared before the Midland Magistrates Court on Friday, June 5 and will next appear on July 10 at Midland Magistrates Court.

Ellenbrook police thank members of the public who alerted police, allowing officers to respond quickly and safely.
MIDLAND detectives have charged a man with several offences following an incident in Aveley on Thursday, June 4.
About 8.45pm, police attempted to stop a red Ford Falcon sedan on Egerton Drive after observing it travelling at excessive speed.
Officers activated emergency lights and sirens, however, it will be alleged the driver failed to stop and accelerated away from police, and a short evade incident ensued.
It will be further alleged the driver lost control and collided with a tree and a streetlight on the median strip of Rivington Entrance, near Flaxen Street, before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
He was located a short distance away on Semerwater Crescent, where he was apprehended and taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly located a quantity of cannabis, drug paraphernalia and suspected stolen property.
A 19-year-old male from Aveley has been charged with one count each of reckless driving exceeding the speed limit by 45 km/h or more on a length of road, driver failed to comply with a direction to stop (circumstance of aggravation), reckless driving exceeding the speed limit by 45 km/h or more to escape pursuit, possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property.
He was also charged with one count each of no authority to drive (never held), failed to comply with a direction of a police officer, obstructing public officers, possession of prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply (cannabis), driver failed to stop after a crash causing property damage, possessed drug paraphernalia in or on which there was a prohibited drug or plant.
His bail was refused and he appeared before the Midland Magistrates Court on Friday, June 5 where he was granted bail with conditions with a $2000 personal undertaking and $2000 surety.
He will next appear before the Midland Magistrates Court on July 10.
MAJOR crash investigation section officers are investigating a serious crash that occurred in Bassendean on Friday, June 5 which resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
About 12.35pm, a white and silver Mitsubishi tray top was travelling on Jackson Street when it collided with a male pedestrian.
The 35-year-old male pedestrian was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment of critical injuries but has sadly since died.
The 50-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi was not injured.
