ABOUT 10pm on Wednesday, June 26, a blue Mitsubishi Lancer hatchback left the roadway near the intersection of Forrest Street and Eason Road in Sawyers Valley, and crashed into a dam on a private property.
WA Police said police, St John WA and DFES attended the scene a short time later.
Following inquiries, Water Police utilised an underwater drone to assess the situation; however, the operation was suspended due to the conditions.
Police divers attended the scene early on Thursday, June 27, and at about 11am, the vehicle was removed from the dam.
Police discovered the body of a 34-year-old male inside the vehicle.
Officers from the major crash investigation section are investigating the incident.
DETECTIVES have charged a 25-year-old man with fraud related offences after he attempted to scam a 93-year-old woman out of $58,000.
Between Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 27, the victim received several phone calls from a man who claimed to be investigating scammers that were attempting to hack her accounts.
It will be alleged; the man – who was later identified as the accused – demanded she withdraw $58,000 to enable the investigation of the scammers to be finalised.
He advised the victim that a man would come to her house on Friday to collect the money. The victim spoke to her neighbour about the phone calls, who then advised her to contact police.
About 9.40am on Friday, June 28, the accused attended the victim’s address to collect the cash, and he was arrested a short time later.
The 25-year-old Victorian man was charged with two counts of intent to defraud by deceit.
He is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on July 18.
The investigation has identified various groups who target elderly and vulnerable people in the community and victims are being contacted by telephone from people posing to be fraud investigators.
These groups convince victims they are in danger of being hacked and pose as legitimate fraud specialists willing to assist.
PERTH detectives have charged a 24-year-old Caversham man in relation to an incident on Hay Street, East Perth, which occurred about 4.45am on Saturday, June 29.
In the early hours of Saturday, five injured people attended hospital for medical treatment following a vicious brawl outside Barbes nightclub on Hay Street involving about 50 people.
Their injuries were not life-threatening. An investigation was commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding their injuries.
The investigation linked the injured men to an incident that occurred earlier on Hay Street. OnSunday, June 30, police attended Royal Perth Hospital and arrested the 24-year-old man.
He has been charged with endanger life, health or safety of a person and appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on July 10, to reappear August 7.
The investigation is ongoing.
