FIREFIGHTERS from across Perth’s brigades will take some time off from active duty over the Christmas period to raise money for the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The Perth firefighters’ calendar is an annual fundraising drive now in its 18th consecutive year.
The project has raised more than $1.6 million for the Perth Children’s Hospital foundation, and this year will see the team of participants washing windscreens at Muzz Buzz drive throughs around the city.
The team are participants in the annual Perth firefighter’s calendar.
Among this year’s calendar ‘models’ is 37-year-old Jeff Shilton, who is returning to the calendar for a second time, having participated in the cause a number of years ago.
“I love the idea behind the calendar and what it stands for,” he said.
“It’s a great vibe and I think it’s also important for us firefighters to set a good example out in the community.
“If I can use my involvement for the greater good and to drive support for good causes like the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, then that’s fantastic.”
Also getting involved is a career veteran 53-year-old Antony Sadler, who has been a firefighter for more than 20 years.
“I’ve always wanted to be able to do my part to raise money for the Perth Children’s Hospital, and I’m finally getting that opportunity,” he said.
Jeff and Antony – and the rest of this year’s participants – will spend time washing windscreens at various Muzz Buzz stores throughout December, collecting donations and raising awareness about the calendar and the Foundation.
Muzz Buzz executive chairman Warren Reynolds says Muzz Buzz has supported the cause for several years now.
“We’re always keen to support our most vulnerable members of the community, and we know the difference the world class burns service at PCH makes to the lives of children,” he said.
“It’s a privilege to be able to support the Perth Firefighter’s Calendar again this year, but it’s Jeff, Antony and the rest of the team who are doing the hard work, both in preparing for the calendar and in their jobs each and every day.
“We know Muzz Buzz customers are generous, raising more than $18,000 last year, and we’re aiming to do even better this year.”
The firefighters will be at the Kalamunda Muzz Buzz on December 10 and the Ellenbrook store on December 11.
