JOIN Forrestfield Football Club (FFC) on March 15 as they celebrate their 50th anniversary with a family-friendly fun from 12pm to 4.30pm at John Reid Oval, followed by a dinner from 6.30pm to 11.30pm at Steel Blue Oval.

The club has come a long way since 1975 when Forrestfield Primary School principal Ken Waters was approached by a coordinator of the local football competition asking him if he could put together a team because of the uneven number of teams competing.

Mr Waters gathered a group of U13  boys who were keen to play, and the rest was history.

That year, a 13-year-old Tony Cale set a milestone when he scored the club’s very first goal.

Since then, the club has continued to grow and now has a total of 11 teams competing, from Year 3 to senior-aged players.

Forrestfield  Football Club secretary Lesley Boyd said the club had grown from a single team in the Swans competition to a vibrant community of players and supporters.

Festivities kick off at midday with a family-friendly sausage sizzle and activities for the kids including waterslides, fairy floss and snow cones.

Later in the afternoon, a cake-cutting ceremony will be accompanied by guest speakers who will share the club’s rich history.

The celebrations will end with a dinner at the Swan Districts Steel Blue Oval.

All past players, members, their families and local residents are welcome to join as the club celebrates the half century milestone.
