LOCAL streets are set to become safer following a significant two-day police operation aimed at curbing hoon driving, anti-social vehicle use, and other criminal activity across the Forrestfield area.
Led by Forrestfield Police, the major enforcement action took place last month, running overnight on September 18 and 19.
The operation was in direct response to increased community complaints about persistent issues in surrounding suburbs including Gooseberry Hill, High Wycombe, Kalamunda, Lesmurdie, Walliston, Wattle Grove, and Maida Vale.
Dozens of vehicles were stopped, and officers conducted 62 random breath tests and detected two driver’s license offenses.
The enforcement resulted in four defect notices being issued and one vehicle was immediately impounded.
Police also seized 21 drug items and searched eight individuals. In one case, a 35-year-old Heathridge man was charged with ‘Possession with Intent to Sell or Supply’ after police allegedly located more than 7 grams of methylamphetamine during the search of his vehicle.
Officer-in-Charge of Forrestfield Police Station Senior Sergeant Brad Robinson said that this operation was a multi-pronged approach by local police to directly address critical community concerns and issues.
“Hoon driving, burnouts, reckless driving, other unsafe vehicle and antisocial behaviour is the kind of offending that puts other road users and residents, as well as the offenders themselves, at serious risk of injury or death,” he said.
“It has no place in our community, and through operations like these, we will focus on catching repeat high-risk offenders and using lawful enforcement, including vehicle seizure, to hold them accountable for their actions.”
Anyone with information relating to these matters or criminal activity within the district is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 888 000 or report online anonymously.
