UWA’s University Dramatic Society (UDS) is set to premiere a new original work in Midland, The Day After the End of the World, as part of the 2026 Fringe World Festival.
Written and directed by student theatre-maker Maya Djurdjevic, the production will be staged at the Midland Junction Arts Centre for three nights only on January 27, 28 and February 1.
This play explores the nature of human connection when a group of characters find their lives upended following a conclusive global announcement the world is about to end.
In what they believe are their final hours, the characters are forced to strip away their social masks and confront the truths they have spent years avoiding, from romantic confessions to desperate attempts at family reconciliations.
When the sun rises the following morning and the world remains intact, the characters are forced to navigate the permanent social and personal consequences of their prior admissions.
The 90-minute drama starts at 7pm and is housed in the venue’s auditorium, offering an intimate setting for the high-stakes character study.
As the oldest independent theatre company in Western Australia, established in 1917, UDS provides university students with professional opportunities to produce and perform original works.
The production marks a significant entry in the society’s 109th year of operation, and showcases the creative output of current UWA students.
The performance is recommended for audiences aged 15 and over, as the script contains frequent coarse language and mature themes regarding mental health and grief.
