GIDGEGANNUP Men’s Shed (GMS) has reached an exciting milestone with the completion of the construction phase of its new, purpose-built workshop and trailer garage, located on the site of the former tennis courts at the Gidgegannup Showgrounds.

The project, a significant step forward for the local community, now moves into the next phase - internal fit-out.

The project faced some delays due to the extensive rock breaking required during early earthworks.

Despite these challenges, the GMS project team, working in collaboration with the City of Swan, successfully managed the build and ensured the use of local contractors wherever possible, a key value in supporting the Gidgegannup trades community.

The new facility will provide a dedicated space for current and future members of the Men’s Shed, who use the space not only for woodwork, metalwork, mosaics and other hands-on activities, but also for social connection, learning new skills, and promoting mental health and well-being in the community.

“This is more than just a building. It’s a place where people can come together, work side-by-side, and support one another. The new workshop will allow us to grow and continue making a positive impact in Gidgegannup,” a shed member said.

Looking ahead, the City of Swan is planning to host an open day upon the project’s completion in 2026 providing opportunity for the local community, supporters, and sponsors to tour the new facility and celebrate this significant achievement together.

The project has been made possible thanks to the support of key funding partnerships, with Lotterywest as the major contributor.

Additional contributions from Mundaring Bendigo Bank, Commonwealth Bank, Rotary Relief WA, and Men’s Shed WA, have been vital in bringing the Gidgegannup Men’s Shed vision to life.

GMS would also like to extend sincere thanks to the many local businesses and professionals who contributed to the project whose skills, dedication and community spirit helped bring this vision to life:

RM Smith and Sons Rural Builders, Waypoint Outdoor, Kings Earth and Turf, JSS Contracting, LJM Electrical, Larry Croft Plumbing, Chrisp Air Conditioning, Secureview Communications and Security, IKM IT Solutions and Fasttrack Approvals.

The Gidgegannup Men’s Shed continues to welcome new members male and female over the age of 18 years. For more information or to get involved, visit their website.
