IN a significant stride towards gender equality in sports, Guildford Grammar School has launched an Australian Football League Women's (AFLW) team.

“This initiative marks a pivotal moment for our school as we continue to champion inclusivity and provide equal opportunities for all our students,” principal Peter Allen said.

The Guildford Grammar AFLW program will initially be offered to students in Years 7-8, Years 9-10 and Years 11-12.

“The introduction of the AFLW team underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of diversity and excellence within our sporting community,” Mr Allen said.

“With this initiative, we aim to create a level playing field where female athletes can thrive and excel in an environment that celebrates their talent and dedication.

“The establishment of the AFLW team aligns with our broader vision of empowering our students to reach their full potential, both on and off the field. Through participation in competitive sports like AFL, our female students will have the opportunity to showcase their skills, build confidence, and forge lifelong friendships.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported this initiative, including our dedicated coaching staff, enthusiastic supporters, and the wider community,” he said.

Mr Allen is also a member of ‘CEOs for Gender Equity’.

“Joining ‘CEOs for Gender Equity’ provides Guildford Grammar with a platform to collaborate with like-minded leaders and organisations, amplifying our collective efforts to affect positive change,” he said.

“Guided by our values of excellence, respect, integrity, spirituality, and compassion, together, we can build a future where gender equity is not just a goal, but a reality, both on and off the field.”
