WITH nominations open for the WA Women’s Hall of Fame 2025 it’s timely to recall the three women from Swan and the Perth Hills who have been inducted in the recent past.

Last year Dorothy Bagshaw of Beechboro and Victoria Laurie of Gooseberry Hill were both inducted as reported in From Stolen Generation to WA Women’s Hall of Fame (Echo News, March 10, 2023) and Journalist and conservationist inducted into Hall of Fame (Echo News, March 10, 2023) respectively.

Dianne Ryder of Stratton was inducted earlier this year as reported in Dianne recognised in WA Women’s Hall of Fame.

The call for 2025 nominations was launched in Parliament House by Finance, Commerce and Women’s Interests Minister Sue Ellery, who is also the government’s Legislative Council leader.

Following a Welcome to Country by Whadjuk Noongar Elder and 2016 inductee Glenda Kickett, WA Women’s Hall of Fame chair Fiona Reid announced the 2025 call for nominations.

In her address Ms Reid said as they marked the hall of fame’s 15th anniversary, she found herself reflecting on the wide array of women who came from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, across sectors, and around the state,  who have been recognised for their contributions, their achievements, and their commitment to the betterment of fellow Western Australian’s, with this year’s champions but a few of those inspiring women.

The year’s champions include 2011 inaugural inductee and plastic surgeon Professor Fiona Wood AO.

Professor Wood said being an inaugural recipient of the WA Hall of Fame was a profound honour.

“Reflecting on its 15-year journey, I’m inspired by the incredible achievements of the women celebrated since, and the passion and dedication of those who strive to make a difference in their fields,’’ she said.

“Together, we can continue to push boundaries, innovate, and build a stronger, more compassionate future for all.”

Nominations will be accepted in the categories of health, community, STEM & technical trades, culture, education, arts, sport, and business.

Nominations are also welcome for the roll of honour, to be inducted posthumously.
