THE York Residency Museum’s feature exhibition this year will document the World War II service and family separation of local resident Harry Wood.

Running from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 28, the display is structured around a large photographic collection donated to the museum by Wood’s son in 2020.

In 1942, Wood deployed to Egypt with his military unit before later serving in Tarakan, Indonesia.

The archival images will provide a direct visual record of the environments and conditions Wood encountered while serving overseas.

A central theme on display will be the historical evolution of long-distance communication and how families maintain contact during periods of conflict.

Visitors are also invited to contribute their own family records or accounts from World War I, World War II , and the Vietnam War to expand the local archive.

Located on Brook Street in York, the exhibition is open to the public from 10am to 3pm on Fridays, and from 11am to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
