MIDLAND Junction Arts Centre (MJAC) will host HyperVision, an annual youth art exhibition and competition created and run by a group of young volunteers known as the Hyper team in the City of Swan from this week until August 24.
This year the Hyper team is getting reflective and will be taking over all of the gallery spaces at MJAC to celebrate 18 years of HyperVision.
Each year, young artists aged between 12 to 25 are asked to respond to the theme created by the Hyper team through a range of media including photography, sculpture, traditional media, fashion and jewellery, short film and experimental works.
This year’s theme, Reflect, provides an opportunity for young artists to present a diverse and exciting snapshot of topics that are important to them, while revealing the emerging talent across Western Australia.
The City of Swan is Perth’s largest local government area and is home to a diverse and vibrant arts community.
HyperVision is proudly presented by the city, and is one part of the Hyper Series, a youth-led program supporting young people to create, curate and celebrate arts and culture in their community.
In addition to HyperVision, this City of Swan initiative also includes HyperFest and the Hyper Miniseries, a large-scale music festival and a series of in-school music performances, providing young people with an opportunity to collaborate, gain skills, network and be involved in arts and cultural events.
Coinciding with HyperVision visitors are invited to explore MJAC to meet artists-in-residence, experience theatre and take part in visual arts workshops designed for youth audiences.
HyperVision presents a wonderful opportunity for young people to share their artworks and voices with an arts audience and is a platform for young emerging artists entering a career in the arts.
HyperVision: Reflect is on show at MJAC from Fiday, July 25 to Sunday, August 24. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am to 3pm.
