PUBS and venues across the Perth Hills are preparing to celebrate St Patrick’s Day this week with live music, themed food and plenty of green decorations.
The annual celebration takes place on March 17 and honours St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.
In Carmel, Masonmill will host a St Patrick’s Day celebration on Sunday featuring Irish dancers, live Irish music and themed food and drinks. The venue includes an Irish-style village beer garden, with replica shopfronts and signage designed to resemble a traditional Irish street.
The event will also feature themed cocktails, traditional food including beef and Guinness pies and a best dressed competition.
Other Perth Hills venues including Parkerville Tavern and Mahogany Inn & Distillery are also expected to mark the occasion with live music and themed celebrations across the weekend.
Closer to Midland, the Woodbridge Hotel will also be among the venues hosting St Patrick’s Day festivities.
Many celebrations will feature Irish-inspired food, traditional music and the familiar sight of patrons wearing green.
St Patrick’s Day began as a religious feast day in Ireland honouring St Patrick, who is credited with bringing Christianity to the country during the fifth century.
Over time the day developed into a broader celebration of Irish culture and heritage.
Today St Patrick’s Day is celebrated around the world with parades, music and cultural festivals.
Cities across Ireland host major events each year, while communities internationally mark the occasion in their own way.
In Australia the day is widely celebrated in pubs, clubs and community venues.
Many people across the Perth Hills are expected to mark the occasion by attending events or simply wearing green on the day.
