KALAMUNDA’S Zig Zag Gallery has debuted an exploration of sustainability through the arrival of ‘Reclaimed Fragments and Friends’, a collaborative exhibition by local artists Skye Riseley and Karen Parry.

The collection represents a culmination of a creative partnership that began when the two artists first connected as fellow art teachers in 2011, sparking a friendship built on support and shared artistic experiences.

Central to the exhibition is a deep-seated passion for the themes of renewal and transformation, with both women utilising their artistic mediums to breathe new life into materials that were once considered forgotten waste.

The displayed work spans a range of mediums including tactile textiles and complex mixed media art pieces that sit alongside meticulously detailed coloured pencil drawings, all of which highlight hidden value that is often overlooked.

By focusing their attention on objects that have been previously discarded, repurposed, or broken, Riseley and Parry challenge the audience to find unexpected beauty in the mundane and to rethink our modern relationship with consumption and disposal.

Every piece within the gallery tells a moving story of second chances, inviting viewers to slow down and appreciate the intricate textures and histories embedded in the fragments.

Running until May 3 at 50 Railway Road, Kalamunda, the exhibition invites the community to have a direct look at the technical process of converting discarded objects into a professional art collection.

Admission to the gallery is free and visitors can attend between 9am and 4pm on weekdays, or from 10am to 4pm on weekends.
