SINCE forming in 2012, Midland Men’s Shed has seen its membership grow to more than 100 members who have a place to connect, share skills and feel valued.
A re-elected Cook Labor government will invest $10,000 in a new patio for Midland Men’s Shed to enhance its ability to host events and welcome new members.
Premier Roger Cook and WA Labor candidate for Midland Steve Catania met with the Midland Men’s Shed on January 9 at the group’s workshop in Midvale to formally announce the commitment.
Mr Catania said he was proud to commit to the election promise for the Midland electorate and was pleased to have the premier meet members of the men’s shed to see firsthand the great work they do for the community.
“Staying engaged with our communities is important at every stage of life,’’ he said.
“The Midland Men’s Shed plays a key role in facilitating social interactions for members of the community.
“The shed not only operates an active workshop but also runs a chess group and art classes, hosts talks with guest speakers and undertakes excursions to areas of interest within the state.
“This commitment is about doing what’s right for Midland.
“I know this project is important to the shed and I look forward to seeing members make the most of the great new space.”
Midland Men’s Shed president Andy Klita said the shed had been a valued fixture in the Midland electorate for more than 14 years.
“We play a role in making sure we feel connected and give back to our community,’’ he said.
“We’re grateful for this commitment from Steve Catania and Premier Roger Cook. A new patio will allow us to host more events and more members at our workshop.”
Midland Men’s Shed looks forward to welcoming new members in 2025.
Mr Catania is running for the seat of Midland following Michelle Robert’s decision to retire after 28 years.
