THE Gidgegannup Show is on again this weekend Saturday, October 26 offering lots of entertainment and country fun for the entire family.

Australian rustic farm art award competition entries, created after the 2021 Wooroloo fires to show respect to local community members recovering from the devastation, are on display again with prize money sponsored by a Bendigo Bank Mundaring grant.

A grant from the City of Swan has funded a marquee, shared with the Agricultural Society and the CWA, to house the full range of children’s exhibits plus many other entertainment activities, while adult cooking and craft exhibits, vegetables, eggs, honey and flowers will be on display in the hall.

Over in the Livestock area, Gidge 2024 is hosting the premier Goat Show in WA, featuring dairy, boer, angora and pygmy goat classes, organised by Trevor Blight of Dandalee Park Dairy Goats, third time winner of the prestigious Governor’s Cup at the 2024 Perth Royal Show.

During the day the inaugural Baby Pygmy Goat Racing events offer several opportunities to watch these little charmers racing towards their next bottle of milk.

Sponsored by Embarr (manufacturer and supplier of fire control systems), Gidgeridoo Pygmy Goat Stud will supply the athletes, with Hills Billy Carts’ members assisting with co-ordination of events.

This year the Gidge Show is holding judging classes for house cows and other livestock classes encompassing beef cattle, sheep, fleeces and a wide range of poultry.

Gidgegannup Horse and Pony Club will stage a full program of events and other activities in the arena include the WA Farriers Association WA Championships, the log chop, sheaf toss, shearing and a climbing wall.

There will also be men’s shed demos, food, music, dancing, crafts, kites, machinery, many entertainments and stalls and all the fun of the fair complete the program.

Show entry fees are adults $15, school age children $5, pre-school children free.
