COMMUNITY-driven charity Midland Meals and its founder were Swan’s 2025 recipient for the community citizen of the year award.
The statewide awards, whose nominees were chosen by councils and residents, aim to acknowledge the individuals or organisations in their communities who have given back in a remarkable way or provided exceptional service over a sustained period.
Midland Meals founder Loren Pratt received the community citizen of the year award for the individual category and Midland Meals received the award in the group category.
The registered charity was formed in 2019 with the goal of serving free meals to people in need in the Midland, Ellenbrook and Bassendean communities, as reported in Midland hall Op shop fundraiser.
Midland Meals serves a selection of free hot food, desserts, cold drinks, and fresh burgers to approximately 870 people every week of the year across its three sites.
In addition to the meals, the group also offer other essential items such as clothing, shoes, personal hygiene products, towels, and blankets.
