PRIMARY-AGED students from Mundaring’s Sacred Heart School (SHS) are preparing for their upcoming One Big Voice (OBV) performance at the end of August.

SHS Principal Mark Tenney said 35 keen boys and girls from years 3 to 6 will be performing.

“There are no auditions, the SHS choir is about participation, unity and song,” Mr Tenney said.

“Anyone can join.”

Mr Tenney said OBV was Australia’s largest children’s choir with more than 5000 students from across WA taking part.

“OBV is a spectacular show of singing, unity and diversity,” he said.

According to the OBV website the annual event has been running since 2001 and initially had six schools participate.

Mr Tenney said the school started participating in the event last year after the creation of a school choir which is coordinated by year 3 teacher Kathryn Buller.

“Students have been rehearsing since term 1 each week practising a variety of songs and actions.

“They have performed at school assemblies as part of their preparation.”

With the event approaching soon, Mr Tenney said there was a mixture of nerves and excitement from the students.

“There is a buzz of excitement that all their hard work is coming to fruition and that they get to share their talents and joy with the world,” he said.

“We are incredibly proud of them.”
