A HEART-warming family story The Travellers, partly filmed in York, is set to showcase Western Australia to the world when it is released in cinemas on October 9 this year.

The Travellers, which was filmed across York, Perth and Fremantle was made possible through the state government’s Western Australian Production Attraction Incentive.

The production injected $3.5 million into the state economy and created work for 225 Western Australian crew, cast and extras.

Local WA producer Kelvin Munro (We Bury the Dead) worked alongside the Ambience Entertainment producing team of Michael Boughen and Matthew Street, whose film projects include Tomorrow When the War Began (2010) and Storm Boy (2019).

Delivered in partnership with Screenwest, the WA production attraction incentive is a key part of the WA Screen Industry Strategy, providing a 10-year framework to guide the investment and growth of the WA screen industry.

The strategy is supported by a $42.5m investment over four years under the WA Screen Industry Strategy to increase the attraction of large-scale productions and grow WA’s workforce and screen industry capacity in advance of the opening of the $233.5m Perth Film Studios in early 2026.

Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk said it was very exciting to see another release of a locally filmed production that will take Western Australia to the world stage.

“The WA Production Attraction Incentive supports increased screen employment and economic diversification outcomes for Western Australia.”
