SHIRE of Mundaring is seeking nominations for the 2025 Australia Day Citizenship Awards to recognise the remarkable individuals and groups who have made a significant contribution to the community.

This year’s categories are Young Citizen of the Year, recognising individuals or groups (up to 30 years) who have significantly contributed to the community, Inspirational Volunteer, celebrating volunteers whose efforts have positively impacted the local community, Access Mundaring, honouring individuals or groups who work towards a more accessible and inclusive community and Long Service, acknowledging those who have been community champions, dedicating more than 10 years of service to the local area.

Council agreed to broaden this year’s eligibility criteria, making it easier to acknowledge a wider range of community contributors.

Nominees are no longer required to live within the shire, as long as their contributions benefit the local Shire of Mundaring community.

Shire President Paige McNeil said the awards reflect the shire’s commitment to celebrating the diverse nature of the community and reinforce its aim to be inclusive of all residents and volunteers making a difference in our community.

“Council encourages everyone to nominate those making a remarkable contribution to our community. These awards are a fantastic way to celebrate the extraordinary efforts of our community champions,” she said.

“This year we hope to recognise an even wider range of volunteers, whether they reside in the shire or not. We have also amended our Young Citizen category to recognise those up to 30 years old, ensuring that the award reflects the breadth of community service across all ages and backgrounds.”

Nominations opened on Thursday, October 10 and close at 4pm on Wednesday, November 27.

Nominations can be submitted online via munda ring.wa.gov.au/citizenship-awards or by completing a written form, available at the shire administration building and shire libraries.
