MUNDARING toy library is marking 50 years of service to community, making it one of the longest-running toy libraries in Western Australia.
A celebration will be held at the toy library, 12 Craig Street, Mundaring, on Saturday, September 14, from 10am to 12pm.
The event, supported through the Shire of Mundaring’s community funding program, provides an opportunity for current and former members and volunteers to celebrate half a century of dedicated efforts within the local community.
The free two hour ‘birthday’ event will include children’s entertainment, face painting, bubbles, ice cream, play, birthday cake and more, and all members past, present and future are invited to join in the celebration.
Hundreds of children have benefitted from the toy library’s services since its inception in 1974. As a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation, it offers local families access to a wide range of fun and educational toys for children aged 0 to 8 and is a model of sustainability, both economically and environmentally.
“The Shire of Mundaring recognises the crucial role libraries play in fostering community, as well as supporting young people’s early development,” Shire of Mundaring President Paige McNeil said.
Similar to a book library, the following items are available to borrow:
Beginner/baby toys, activity toys and outdoor ride-ons, construction toys - wooden and magnetic blocks, Lego, giant construction blocks, train tracks, games and puzzles, fine motor toys - threading, lacing, playdough tools, peg boards, educational and STEM toys, fancy dress costumes, sand and water toys, sporting equipment, musical toys and instruments, role play toys - dollhouses, doctor kits, animals, vehicles, and party packs - tables, chairs, crockery, cutlery, and decorations.
