MUNDARING Shire President Paige McNeil officially launched the Static Water Supplies Support community safety project at a community event on Saturday, March 22 at Lake Leschenaultia, unveiling a striking new community mural created by local artist Tay Beynon (Meraki Boho).
The emergency water project, aiming to bring awareness to the importance of fire preparedness, includes the strategic installation of three 60,000 litre water tanks in the Chidlow area to provide essential water sources for firefighting in areas that lack access to scheme water.
Ms McNeil said the project was a proactive boost to fire preparedness across the shire and highlighted the importance of community collaboration.
“We are privileged to have Tay Beynon, a talented local artist, contribute her skills to the creation of our community-inspired mural,” she said.
“This remarkable artwork symbolises the vital connection between water and safety, serving as a meaningful reflection of the strength of our community and its ongoing commitment to bushfire preparedness.
“With its vibrant colours and stunning design, the mural enhances the visual appeal of Lake Leschenaultia, creating an engaging environment that invites locals and visitors to appreciate both its beauty and the message it conveys.”
The event was well attended by the community and volunteers with the Chidlow Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, Glen Forrest Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, Darling Range Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, and Sawyers Valley Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade providing a range of family activities.
Attendees at the mural launch also had the opportunity to get up close and personal with fire-fighting vehicles.
The shire is now seeking community feedback to inform the design of public education preparedness materials.
