A NEW music club for adults is launching in Mundaring, offering a relaxed and inclusive space for people to sing, play instruments and connect through song.
The Mundaring and Hills Friendly Music Club will be facilitated by retired music teacher Karina McRoberts, who said the idea was to create a community-based music club with a welcoming atmosphere.
Ms McRoberts has been involved in a range of musical projects, including medieval fairs, charity events and a large-scale musical theatre night in York.
“That was a wonderful but huge endeavour, and now I’m hoping to downsize by creating a community-based music club with a friendly flavour,” she said.
She said participants were encouraged to bring a song to share with the group, helping to build a varied repertoire over time.
“The idea is that everyone brings a song for the group to learn and share; and with time, a wonderful repertoire will be created,” she said.
“The range is varied, and participants will be encouraged to share songs from their cultural backgrounds.”
The club will also offer opportunities to learn acoustic instruments, with Ms McRoberts providing some from her own collection and offering guidance for those interested in playing.
“Maybe you never got the chance or maybe you started in school but never got back to it or maybe someone bullied you and you stopped,” she said.
“In this club, there’s no judgement, no pressure, and nobody will be expected to read music.”
Ms McRoberts said the focus was on fun and participation.
“It’s not for show-offs – it’s about cooperation, not competition,” she said.
The first session will be held on Wednesday, May 14 from 10am to 2pm at the Mundaring Community Men’s Shed.
Tea and coffee will be available and participants can bring a snack or lunch.
The event is free but RSVPs are required by calling 0423 980 241.
