The new agreement follows the decision by long-term service-provider Volich Waste to wind up operations ahead of the owner’s retirement.
Shire President James Martin said council had considered several options for a new service provider, and EMRC proved a viable option based on anticipated cost benefits for the shire and its residents.
“The shire and EMRC routinely collaborate on projects and initiatives and this new agreement is an extension of our well-established relationship,” he said.
“There will be no change to collection dates or times for residents.”
EMRC chief executive officer Marcus Geisler said the EMRC regional waste collection service was part of an integrated waste management system that would bring service and cost benefits to the Shire of Mundaring and its residents.
The optimisation of truck routes and disposal locations would lead to decreased traffic congestion as well as reduced air and noise pollution and provide an increased diversion of waste from landfill.
