No EV charging points planned for new carpark

The talks between the City of Swan and the Public Transport Authority confirmed electric vehicle charging bays were not in the plan for the new Midland station car park.

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) has confirmed no electrical vehicle (EV) charging in the carpark will be built as part of the current new Midland station project, but hasn’t said why.

A City of Swan spokesperson said the PTA didn’t tell the city why the EV charging bays weren’t included in the plan.

“The City of Swan is not managing the redevelopment of Midland station and the multistorey car park, and the decision is not the city’s to make,” they said.

“As such, we have no authority to make decisions about EV charging stations at the Midland station multistorey and we were not provided with a reason why they have not been included in the plan.

“The city currently has no plans to provide EV charging stations in this area.”

A PTA spokesperson said EV provisions were, however, made for the new carpark being built, pointing to a line previously released in a media statement by the PTA.

“Once the carpark opens, it will have more than 800 bays including 20 ACROD bays and 10 motorcycle bays, with the provision for electric car charging points to be installed in the future,” they said.

Provisions for electric car charging points to be installed in the future will mean charging points may be easily installed in the future should they be required.

As reported in Metronet Midland carpark due to complete this year the rest of the project, including a new 12-stand bus interchange and new cycling and pedestrian routes to get to the station, is due to be completed next year.
