A FREE WA-based music mentorship program Sound States is back for 2025, and applications are now open for WA-based self-manager artists and artist managers.
Former Kalamunda resident Veronica Zurzolo said as a 2022 mentee of the program she couldn’t endorse enough how beneficial Sound States was and encouraged everyone to apply.
Nici Ward of Mt Helena said having been in and around the music industry all her life she had been excited to be accepted into Sound States 2023 to further her understanding of how things had changed in the industry and how she could gain more knowledge to apply to her own journey.
“As an artist and now also someone invested in starting a small indie label, Sound States provided myself and the other attendees not only knowledge to better equipment themselves moving forward but also massive inspiration,’’ she said.
“The sense that we are all in this together and sharing our past experiences and future goals was something I’ll take with me forever.
“Providing a safe space for artists of all levels to ask questions and sit in on invaluable guest speaker sessions is something very special about Sound States and I encourage anyone starting out in the industry to apply.”
Back for its fifth season, Sound States – presented by 360 Artist Logistics – is now accepting applications for 2025.
Designed for early-career artist managers and self-managed artists, the program empowers participants with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to take control of their careers.
Taking place across three days – Wednesday, July 30, Thursday July 31 and Friday, August 1 – at the State Library of Western Australia, Sound States provides a hands-on approach to navigating the music industry without relying on traditional gatekeepers.
The program features a lineup of mentors who have carved out their own success stories, building their audiences and careers from the ground up.
Through in-depth sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities, participants will gain practical insights from independent managers, self-managed artists, publicists, booking agents, tax specialists, radio producers, and more.
Participants can expect personal success stories, DIY career strategies, and invaluable advice tailored to those forging their own path in the industry.
With a strong emphasis on fostering confidence and career autonomy, Sound States has earned widespread praise from past participants and industry professionals alike.
The program offers 15 successful applicants the opportunity to attend at no cost, with at least three positions reserved for regionally based participants.
The program will cover transport, accommodation, and ground transfers for regional attendees.
