KALAMUNDA Performing Arts Centre will host a Priscilla Queen of the Desert tribute performance on September 20, featuring live vocals, spectacular costumes, comedy and iconic anthems from the cult classic.
Cabaret artist Dean Misdale, who stars in the Priscilla Queen of the Desert: The Musical at Crown Theatre, will also star in the production coming to the Perth Hills.
Having performed to sold-out audiences across Perth and beyond, Misdale has become one of the state’s most recognised drag entertainers, known for powerful live vocals, razor-sharp wit, and the ability to transform the stage into a party.
Misdale was the first Drag Queen in Australia to top the iTunes charts with their remake of the Kool & The Gang classic Celebration in 2023 and was two-time winner of best cabaret and variety show at Perth’s Fringe World Festival.
The September performance is billed as high-energy with heartfelt storytelling and plenty of sparkle in a show honouring the legacy of Priscilla while aiming to give it a fresh and fabulous twist.
“Priscilla has always been such a huge part of my journey as a performer, and this show is my way of paying homage to the film, the musical, and the incredible impact it’s had on drag and greater pop culture,” Misdale said.
“Expect disco, divas, and more sequins than a Bunnings sausage sizzle has onions.”
City of Kalamunda Mayor Margaret Thomas said the city was thrilled to present Dragged Through the Desert: A Priscilla Celebration at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre.
“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome a show of this calibre to our local theatre,” she said.
“Priscilla holds a special place in the hearts of many Australians, and we are excited to see it celebrated right here in Kalamunda.
Ms Thomas said the city was committed to strengthening the community through inclusive programming, personal creativity, shared experiences, and the activation of public spaces under the city’s arts and culture strategy.
“Productions like this shine a spotlight on inclusivity and diversity, while giving our creative sector the chance to share powerful stories in bold and beautiful ways,” she said.
“It’s exactly the kind of energy we want to see in our performing arts centre.”
The show has been rated for audiences 15-years or older and more information can be found at www.kalamundapac.com.au
