TEN years ago in November 2015 St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals was officially commissioned and the doors opened to the community for the first time.
The hospital replaced the former Swan District Hospital as an expanded hospital offering both public and, for the first time, private beds to meet the community’s healthcare needs within an expanded and modern facility.
Over the past decade, the hospital has grown into a hub of clinical excellence, education and research.
From welcoming 18,555 babies, caring for hundreds of thousands of patients, and supporting people in their most vulnerable moments, to training more than 307 medical graduates, 4000 nursing students and 300 midwifery students, their commitment to high-quality, compassionate care has remained at the centre of everything they do.
The hospital’s group of dedicated volunteers has been a vital aspect of care delivery over the past decade providing invaluable support to caregivers, patients and visitors at the hospital.
Since opening, more than 256 volunteers have donated over 73,500 hours of support to the hospital, with 13 pioneer volunteers having been with the hospital from day one.
On November 27, hospital caregivers gathered to commemorate the hospital’s tenth birthday with a gigantic birthday cake and a meal with St John of God Health Care board chair, Kerry Sanderson AC CVO, performing the cake cutting honours.
Hospital chief executive officer Paul Dyer said the milestone birthday was also a celebration of their people.
“From caregivers, clinicians, support teams, volunteers, partners and the wider community - whose expertise, dedication and collaboration have shaped the hospital into the trusted healthcare provider it is today.
“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved in Midland over the past ten years and look forward to continuing to deliver compassionate, committed and connected care.”
