THE annual Spring into York has a new and improved format this year and includes the inaugural ‘York Home & Outdoor living Expo’ in the iconic York Town Hall over two days, from Friday, October 10 from 3pm-7pm to Saturday, October 11 from 10am-4pm.

This is a promotion of local businesses with demonstrations, information, food tasting, gardening advice, wine tasting and DIY help plus lots more and is open until 7pm so you can pop in after work.

The opening ceremony will be at 6pm and there will be music, refreshments and a chance to network with local business owners, meet representatives from York Bendigo Bank or talk to the new manager of the York Co-op.

Saturday starts at the Peace Park markets with lots of plants as well as all the usual selection of stalls.

There are talks in the Town Hall starting at 11am with Iain Murray ‘The Cultivating Curmudgeon’, a free event including morning tea and at 2pm a presentation of the vital part played by bees in keeping us all alive.

You can learn about composting, wicking beds, worm farms and companion planting direct from Greg our composting guru at 1pm.

Attendees can also take in the six-seasons garden at the Residency Museum, the amazing Bushland Garden on Grey Street and the many retail outlets along historic Avon Terrace, or drop into Pantechnica for an exhibition by the WA Watercolour Society entitled ‘Yellow’.

The evening concludes at Historic Faversham House for a Twilight Open Garden and music under the stars, so bring a picnic, bar available (no byo please) and relax before tackling Sunday and the York Garden Club’s Open garden Day.

A limited number of tickets for the Twilight at Faversham House event are $20 each on Humanitix.
Full printed programs are available from the York Visitor Centre.
