ARTIST Sandra Leach is holding a solo exhibition, Natures Calling, in partnership with Mates in Construction (MIC) at the Swan Settlers Market to raise funds for its suicide prevention program.
The event will be held on March 29 and 30 from 9.30am to 4.30pm at the function room.
Entry into the exhibition is a $2 gold coin donation, which will go towards the MIC program and also into a draw to win the Tranquil Wungong art piece by Ms Leach, valued at $410.
Ms Leach said she has done administrative work in the construction industry for 20 years and wants to promote the program which involves volunteers and workers going to various sites to provide training and support to construction workers.
“Sometimes talking to a stranger in confidence is easier than talking to family, friends and co-workers about what you are facing,” she said.
Since she was 10-years-old, Ms Leach said she’s always had a passion for drawing and painting.
“At the age of 18, I learnt how to paint with oil on canvas at Venus Art Gallery in Highgate.
“I have been painting for 42 years.”
Her piece, Tranquil Wungong, was inspired by her time in the Wungong bush and was painted in 1997 using oil paints over a six month period.
Ms Leach said the prize piece is a signed open edition fine art print, stretched on a 570 x 840mm canvas and made in WA.
