THE legacy of forty-three years of caring and support for members of the City of Swan’s ageing community continues.
President Ron Carey said the service has only grown in that time, both in expertise and popularity.

Community care services encompass a fleet of cars, buses and volunteer drivers, who ferry members of the community who can no longer drive or are no longer confident driving themselves to appointments and outings in the local area and operate six days a week.

Services provided by the team include transport to shopping centres, medical appointments, hair salons, bingo sessions, group lunch outings, and visits to places of interest such as museums and historical sites.

The volunteers and staff gathered for their AGM at the end of last month and reflected on a year’s work well done.

Mr Carey said both volunteers and staff should continue to be congratulated on the work they do day in and day out for the local community.

“They are very special people with very special hearts, and they can be enormously proud of the work they are doing to enrich the lives of the city’s many clients,” he said.

Over the 2023-24 financial year, the 38 volunteer drivers made 12,558 trips around the area, conveying elderly clients to their chosen destinations and back to their homes, covering more than 300,000km.

Combined with staff drivers, the number of trips climbed to 26,462 and more than 390,000km.
